Mrs. Ruth Ann (Scott) James, 83, of Dexter, Kentucky, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026, at Passion and Purpose Home Care in Murray.
Born on February 24, 1943, in Pike County, Kentucky, Ruth was the eldest daughter of the late Fayette Scott and Marie (Smith) Scott. She was a devoted homemaker and a loving mother who poured her heart into caring for her family. Alongside her beloved husband, she proudly helped operate the West Kentucky Burial Vault Company, sharing in both the work and the life they built together. Ruth was a faithful member of Glendale Road Church of Christ.
Those left to cherish wonderful memories of Ruth include her son, Brian James of Hardin; grandchildren, Michael Ray (Alesha) James of Dexter. Ella Katherine James of Hardin, and Alyssa Lynn Boadway of McKenzie, TN; great-grandchildren, Rylee James and Jessi James; and sister-in-law, Wilma Woods of Murray; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband of over fifty years, to whom she was married June 16, 1961, Roger Lee James; a son, Roger Dewayne James; brothers, Woodford “Woody” Scott and Dennis Dale Scott; sisters, Arleanus “Nini” Lott, Priscilla “Susie” Vobroucek, and Rita Gail Leibee.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, until 12:00 p.m. at the Blalock-Coleman Funeral Home, 713 South 4th St., Murray, KY.
A private graveside funeral service will be held at the Murray City Cemetery, with John Dale officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Ruth’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House, c/o MCCH Foundation, 803 Poplar St., Murray, KY 42071.
