(PADUCAH, Ky.) — A Paducah man is facing multiple felony charges after McCracken County Sheriff’s Office detectives executed a search warrant at his Starr Lane residence Monday, uncovering a significant quantity of marijuana and unsanitary conditions for eight dogs inside the home — and a German Shepherd that sent a deputy to the hospital.

The warrant, executed March 24, 2026, stemmed from a domestic violence investigation that had unfolded earlier that same day. Detectives located Matthew Meyers, 40, as the sole occupant of the residence upon their arrival.

Inside the home, investigators discovered nearly six pounds of marijuana — approximately 5.98 pounds — stored in a safe and divided among multiple bags. Digital scales, plastic baggies, and other materials consistent with drug trafficking were also recovered.

The search took a dangerous turn when an adult German Shepherd belonging to Meyers attacked a deputy, biting him on the leg. The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries to the calf. McCracken County Animal Control responded to assist at the scene.

Detectives also documented troubling conditions inside the residence, noting the presence of animal feces and urine throughout the home, where eight dogs were being kept.

Meyers was arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana over five pounds, possession of drug paraphernalia, harboring a vicious animal, fourth-degree assault, and first-degree strangulation. The assault and strangulation charges relate to a domestic incident earlier that day in which Meyers allegedly attacked his son.

Anyone with information about illegal activity in the area is asked to contact the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office at 270-444-4719, or submit an anonymous tip to West Kentucky Crime Stoppers by calling 270-443-TELL.
