Free Mammograms Available to Uninsured Women in May Through Local Health Partnership

(PADUCAH, Ky.) — The Purchase District Health Department and Mercy Health have joined forces to offer free screening mammograms to uninsured Kentucky women throughout the month of May in a campaign dubbed “May is for Mammograms.”

Uninsured residents who are due for a screening mammogram are eligible to receive one at no cost, provided they complete their appointment at Mercy Health during May. As an added incentive, all participants will receive a gift and have their name entered into a drawing for a gift basket from the Purchase District Health Department.

Screenings will be conducted at the Mercy Health – Paducah Women’s Imaging Center, located in Suite 210 of the Marshall Nemer Medical Office Building at 1532 Lone Oak Rd. in Paducah. Appointments can be scheduled by calling Mercy Health’s Breast Imaging Navigator at 270-538-6882.

Health officials say the partnership is aimed at removing barriers to care for women who might otherwise go without screenings. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women aside from skin cancer, and ranks as the second-leading cause of cancer-related death among women. Early detection through routine mammograms is widely regarded as one of the most effective tools for catching the disease in its earliest and most treatable stages.

For more information about the program, contact the Purchase District Health Department at 270-444-9631.
