(CHAPEL HILL, NC)-A historic Murray State women’s basketball season ended Friday, as the Racers dropped a 99-67 decision to Maryland in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at Carmichael Arena.
Senior Halli Poock led all scorers with 27 points, going 9-of-24 from the field and converting all seven of her free-throw attempts. Haven Ford and Keslyn Secrist each added 17 points in strong supporting performances, with Secrist reaching a milestone in the process — crossing the 1,000-point threshold for her career.
Despite the final score, Murray State gave its fans moments to celebrate. The Racers erupted for 24 points in the third quarter, showing the same competitive spirit that defined their season. Ultimately, Maryland’s size and depth were too much to overcome. The Terrapins dominated the paint, outscoring Murray State 52-38 in that area, and capitalized on 24 offensive rebounds to generate 33 second-chance points.
The loss, however, does little to diminish the effort this team accomplished this season. Murray State finishes 31-4 — a program record for wins and the second-highest single-season win total in Missouri Valley Conference history. The Racers also claimed back-to-back MVC championships, cementing this group’s legacy as one of the finest in school history.
