(EDDYVILLE, Ky.) — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reported a number of arrests, warrant services, and criminal incidents during the week of March 9–12, 2026, including a stabbing on Wilderness Road and the extradition of a fugitive from West Virginia.

Bench Warrants Served

Deputies kicked off the week Monday by arresting Erica Belcher, 41, of Russellville on a Todd County District Court bench warrant for failure to appear in connection with a forgery and theft case. Belcher is awaiting extradition to Todd County.

The following morning, Chief Deputy Sam Adams served a Livingston County bench warrant on Cody A. Autry, 36, of Grand Rivers, who was held in contempt of court related to a traffic and drug case. Autry was later released after posting a cash bond.

Also on Tuesday, deputies served a Lyon County Circuit Court indictment warrant on Nashawn Smith, 20, of Cincinnati, Ohio, charging him with third-degree assault for an alleged inmate assault on a corrections employee. Smith remains incarcerated at the Kentucky State Penitentiary.

Two-Vehicle Crash in Eddyville

On Wednesday morning, Chief Deputy Adams and Sheriff Brent White responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of US 62 and KY 93 South in Eddyville. Investigators determined that Sharon G. Smiley, 33, of Princeton failed to yield while turning from US 62 onto KY 93 South, pulling into the path of a vehicle driven by Bryan C. Dotson, 21, of Benton, who was traveling east on US 62. The Eddyville Fire Department and Lyon County EMS responded to assist at the scene.

North Carolina Fugitive Extradited, Immigration Hold Issued

On Thursday afternoon, deputies extradited Moina Massalay, 35, from South Charleston, West Virginia, where he had been located as a wanted fugitive. Massalay faces charges in Lyon Circuit Court including second-degree escape, giving a peace officer false identifying information, marijuana possession, and drug paraphernalia possession. He was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.

Following biometric screening, authorities determined Massalay is in the country illegally and subject to removal. A warrant for arrest of alien was subsequently served, and a hold was placed on him by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Stabbing on Wilderness Road

Thursday evening brought one of the week’s most serious incidents, when the Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a stabbing complaint on Wilderness Road south of Suwanee.

Deputy Shannon Oliver’s investigation revealed that John M. Huddleston, 39, and Wendy D. Garnett, 48, both of Kuttawa, were involved in a violent domestic dispute. According to investigators, Huddleston — who was intoxicated — assaulted Garnett and took her cell phone to prevent her from calling 911, then left the scene and walked to his mother’s nearby home.

Garnett allegedly armed herself with a knife and followed him to the residence, where the confrontation escalated and she stabbed Huddleston before fleeing on foot into a wooded area. Sheriff White later located and detained her without incident.

Lyon County EMS transported Huddleston to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. After his release, he was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) and interfering with communications. Garnett was charged with second-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence.

Investigators also learned that Garnett was on supervised felony probation out of Marshall Circuit Court. Kentucky Probation and Parole responded to the scene and served her with a probation violation detainer carrying a no-bond provision. Both Huddleston and Garnett were lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.

The Eddyville Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Probation and Parole, and Lyon County EMS all assisted with the investigation.
