(MAYFIELD, Ky.) — A 39-year-old Mayfield man is behind bars following a Kentucky State Police investigation into an alleged inappropriate sexual relationship with a minor.
James W. King faces a lengthy list of serious charges after troopers from KSP Post 1 determined he had engaged in sexual activity and drug use with a juvenile girl.
According to investigators, King and the victim had been communicating through social media, where the two discussed illegal drug use and explicit sexual acts. Those conversations allegedly led to a planned late-night meeting. On March 3, King allegedly picked the girl up and drove her to another location, where both drug use and sexual activity occurred.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant on March 10, and troopers took King into custody at his residence the following day without incident.
King was charged with multiple felonies, including second-degree rape, human trafficking involving commercial sexual activity with a victim under 18, procurement or promotion of a minor through electronic means, unlawful transactions with a minor in the first degree — covering both illegal sexual acts and controlled substances — use of a minor in a sexual performance, and possession of material depicting the sexual performance of a minor.
He was initially transported to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center before being transferred to the McCracken County Regional Detention Center.
The investigation was conducted by Kentucky State Police Post 1, based in Mayfield.
