Local Law Enforcement Community Rallies Around Sheriff’s Deputy Battling Cancer, Stroke

(EDDYVILLE, Ky.)-A sheriff’s foundation is calling on the community for support as one of their own faces a devastating medical battle.

Penny Crawford, Chief Financial Deputy for the sheriff’s office, has been diagnosed with advanced metastatic melanoma brain cancer. During the course of her illness, Crawford also suffered a stroke, compounding the challenges she and her family now face.

The Sheriff’s Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has launched a donation drive to help Crawford manage her medical insurance costs while she remains out of work during her recovery.

Crawford’s health insurance coverage is set to expire on May 10, 2026. Without assistance, she faces estimated monthly insurance costs of between $1,500 and $2,200 — a significant financial burden for anyone navigating a serious illness.

“Any amount of assistance would be appreciated, but in addition to your pennies, we would cherish your prayers,” said Sheriff Brent White, who is spearheading the effort.

Donations of any size are being accepted through the Sheriff’s Foundation. Because the foundation holds 501(c)(3) status, contributions may be tax-deductible.

Those wishing to support Deputy Crawford can contact the sheriff’s office for information on how to donate.
