(PADUCAH, Ky.) — A McCracken County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested a Brookport, Illinois man on drug trafficking charges Monday afternoon after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

At approximately 2:52 p.m. on March 9, 2026, Deputy Zach Kimbler conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Estelle and Maple in Paducah after observing a seatbelt violation. The driver, identified as Michael Smith, 43, of Brookport, Illinois, displayed nervous behavior during the stop, prompting deputies to conduct a further investigation.
