(EDDYVILLE, Ky.)-A busy stretch of law enforcement activity in Lyon County last week brought a series of traffic crashes, a major drug and weapons arrest, domestic violence charges, and two ongoing theft investigations seeking public help.

Semi Strikes SUV at Suwanee Intersection

A Kuttawa woman narrowly escaped injury Tuesday evening, March 3, when a semi-trailer struck her vehicle near the intersection of US 62 West and KY 810 South in Suwanee. Maryline F. Mead, 77, had stopped in traffic to make a turn when Leyva R. Oniel, 45, of Louisville failed to notice her stopped Ford Edge while driving westbound. Oniel swerved left to avoid her, but the passenger side of his Freightliner trailer clipped the vehicle, pushing it into a guardrail. No injuries were reported. Eddyville Police, Kuttawa Fire Department, and Lyon County EMS all responded to assist.

Teen Rolls Vehicle After Deer Strike

A 17-year-old Eddyville driver walked away from a rollover crash Thursday evening, March 5, after swerving to avoid a deer on KY 818 North near Dulaney Road. Christopher C. Pierce lost control, went off the roadway, climbed a steep embankment, and overturned. Pierce declined medical treatment at the scene. Eddyville Fire and Police departments and Lyon County EMS assisted.

Drug and Weapons Raid Nets Multiple Charges

The week’s most significant law enforcement action came Friday afternoon, March 6, when a shots-fired call at a residence in the 1000 block of Friendship Road led to a search warrant and major drug seizure. Deputies and Kentucky State Police troopers searched the property and found methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, and two handguns.

Earl B. Molloy III, 64, of Eddyville was arrested and faces a lengthy list of charges including two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, first-degree drug trafficking with a firearm enhancement for more than two grams of methamphetamine, two counts of first-degree controlled substance possession, marijuana possession, and drug paraphernalia possession. Molloy was booked into the Crittenden County Detention Center.

Dollar General Theft Caught on Camera

Also Friday, March 6, around 7:48 a.m., deputies were called to assist Eddyville Police with a theft at a closed business, where surveillance footage captured an unidentified white female trespassing and stealing items from a toolbox before being picked up by an unknown driver in a dark-colored car with its headlights off.

Then Saturday afternoon, March 7, Chief Deputy Sam Adams responded to shoplifting at the Dollar General on KY 293, where two women and a man — arriving in a Tennessee-registered silver Buick sedan — stole merchandise before fleeing toward KY 93 South.

Anyone with information on either theft is asked to contact the Eddyville Police Department at 270-388-2287 or the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at 270-388-2311.

Domestic Violence Arrest Early Saturday

Drug Trafficking Indictment Served Sunday

On Sunday morning, March 8, Sheriff Brent White served a Lyon Circuit Court indictment warrant on Michael S. Conger, 53, of Eddyville. Conger faces charges of first-degree drug trafficking (more than two grams of methamphetamine), second-degree controlled substance possession, marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia possession, and a persistent felony offender enhancement. He is currently held at the Crittenden County Detention Center.

Theft by Deception Charge Filed

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, March 4, Chief Deputy Sam Adams served a criminal complaint and summons on Colby W. Cubbedge, 26, of West Paducah for theft by deception involving cold checks valued between $1,000 and $10,000. Cubbedge is scheduled to appear in Caldwell District Court on March 16.
