(BENTON, Ky.)-The Marshall County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 10, at 11:30 a.m. at Republican Headquarters on the Benton Court Square. A light lunch will be provided, and all interested community members are welcome to attend.

Doug Jordan, a candidate for Marshall County Sheriff, will serve as guest speaker for the occasion.

The meeting comes as the organization continues to build momentum around its “Focus on Community” theme, which has inspired a new initiative to honor local military veterans. The group is working to reestablish Marshall County as a Purple Heart County, a designation that recognizes communities committed to honoring recipients of the nation’s oldest military decoration.

As part of that effort, Bill Fletcher and Jerry Thompson, both former State Commanders for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, recently presented signs to the club. Fletcher served in the Army for 24 years, while Thompson served three years in the Marine Corps and is a Vietnam veteran.

Six signs will be placed along major roads and highways throughout the county in the near future, officially designating Marshall County as a Purple Heart County.
