(CALVERT CITY, Ky.)-Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN) opened the doors to Marshall Yards Racing & Gaming in Calvert City, Kentucky today, marking the company’s eighth historical horse racing entertainment venue in the Commonwealth.
The 23,000 square foot facility represents a $40 to $45 million investment and features 225 historical racing machines, a retail sportsbook, simulcast wagering, and food and beverage offerings. Revenue from the venue will help fund purses for the racing meet at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel in Oak Grove, Kentucky.
“We are setting a new pace for growth as we expand CDI’s footprint in Southwestern Kentucky,” said Bill Carstanjen, CEO of Churchill Downs Incorporated. “Marshall Yards reflects our vision to build destination experiences that generate local economic opportunities, inspire regional tourism, and secure our place at the forefront of racing and entertainment.”
The opening adds to Churchill Downs’ growing network of historical racing venues across Kentucky, a format that has become a significant revenue driver for the Louisville-based company. Officials say the Calvert City location is expected to draw visitors from across the region while creating local 100 permanent local jobs and supporting the broader horse racing industry through its purse funding contributions.
