(BENTON, Ky.) — A routine traffic stop turned into a dangerous high-speed pursuit through Marshall County on Friday morning, ending with the arrest of a 28-year-old Calloway County man.

Anthony Tyler Davis faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from a Marshall County Sheriff’s deputy and leading authorities on a chase through rural areas before being apprehended in Benton.

The incident began around 10:00 a.m. when a deputy on patrol spotted a white Chevrolet pickup speeding on Main Street near 8th Street in Benton. The deputy also noticed the driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

When the deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle near the Little General on Main Street, the driver accelerated and fled, according to authorities. The truck, which bore only a Kentucky temporary tag with no other identification, nearly collided with another vehicle near Priceless IGA during the escape attempt.

The pursuit wound through the Clarks River bottoms area, including Hunter Road, Glade Road, and Dogtown Road, before the suspect circled back into Benton. The chase finally ended on East 14th Street, where Davis stopped and was taken into custody without further incident.

Davis was charged with first-degree fleeing and evading police, reckless driving, and other traffic violations.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office credited the Benton Police Department and Marshall County E-911 with providing assistance during the incident.

No injuries were reported.
