(PADUCAH, Ky.) – Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative dispatched a six-person construction crew Wednesday morning to help restore power in Tennessee following Winter Storm Fern.

The crew departed at 7:00 a.m. to assist Meriweather Lewis Electric Cooperative, which serves the Centerville area. Approximately 13,000 of the Tennessee cooperative’s 35,000 members remained without power as of Wednesday morning.

JPEC crews will remain in Tennessee until power is fully restored to all affected customers.

The mutual aid response demonstrates the collaborative approach electric cooperatives take during major weather events. Cooperatives coordinate through statewide groups to develop restoration plans and deploy resources where they’re needed most.

“Electric cooperatives typically come together in times of crisis,” JPEC officials said, noting that the collaboration ensures power is restored to members as quickly and safely as possible.

Winter Storm Fern brought significant damage to utility infrastructure across the region, leaving thousands without power.
