(SAN DIEGO) — A Kentucky man wanted on multiple child sex crime charges was apprehended by federal authorities in San Diego last week, ending a brief manhunt that began after investigators raided his Paducah home.
Ryan Conn, 41, was arrested January 24 by Port Authority Police and U.S. Border Patrol agents pursuant to a McCracken County arrest warrant. He faces two counts of voyeurism, two counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual act by a minor over 12, and one count of official misconduct.
The case began unfolding in January when McCracken County Public Schools contacted the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office with troubling allegations about one of its volunteer wrestling coaches. School officials reported that Conn may have been involved in a sexual relationship with a student, with the alleged activity occurring nearly a year earlier when the victim was still enrolled.
Sheriff’s detectives launched an immediate investigation, interviewing potential victims and seizing digital evidence. That evidence led investigators to obtain both an arrest warrant and a search warrant for Conn’s Paducah residence, which was executed on January 23.
By the time authorities arrived at his home, Conn had apparently fled. Federal law enforcement located him in California approximately 24 hours later, some 2,000 miles from McCracken County.
Conn is currently awaiting extradition back to Kentucky to face the charges.
The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Multiple agencies collaborated on the case, including McCracken County Public Schools, Homeland Security Investigations, Customs and Border Patrol, and Port Authority Police.
“Each entity played an instrumental role in this investigation and apprehension,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.
