(LYON COUNTY, Ky.) — Treacherous road conditions and outstanding warrants kept Lyon County law enforcement busy this week, according to a media release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Brent White responded to back-to-back crashes on icy stretches of US 62 near Suwanee early Wednesday morning, both caused by drivers losing control on ice-covered roadways.
The first collision occurred around 5:35 a.m. when Peter Morgan, 58, of Eddyville, was traveling westbound on US 62 in his 2008 Ford pickup. Morgan encountered ice while navigating a hill, lost control, and struck a guardrail before his vehicle overturned in the roadway. Morgan declined medical treatment at the scene despite complaining of upper torso pain. Lyon County EMS and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet personnel assisted at the crash site.
Approximately 35 minutes later, at 6:10 a.m., Sheriff White was dispatched to a second single-vehicle crash just west of the first incident. Stanley Walker, 86, of Grand Rivers, was driving a 2007 GMC pickup when he hit ice near Dustin Road, lost control, and veered off the right shoulder into a ditch. Walker’s vehicle came to rest in a nearby field. He was not injured.
In other law enforcement activity this week, Chief Deputy Sam Adams arrested Keila Wynn, 46, of Eddyville, on Wednesday morning around 10:15 a.m. on a Lyon District Court bench warrant for failure to pay. Wynn posted a cash bond and was released.
Later that afternoon, deputies charged Christopher G. Watkins, 48, of Auburn, with two Logan District Court bench warrants, both for contempt of court. Watkins is awaiting extradition to Logan County.
On Friday evening around 7:15 p.m., Deputy Shannon Oliver located and arrested Brian K. Odom, 43, of Eddyville, on Sarah Lane. Odom was wanted on a Crittenden Circuit Court indictment warrant for flagrant non-support and was transported to the Crittenden County Detention Center.
