(McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky.) — A Benton woman died Wednesday following a two-vehicle collision on an ice-covered road in McCracken County, authorities said.

Alicia Andersson, 57, succumbed to her injuries while being transported to an out-of-state hospital following the crash at the intersection of Oaks Road and Shemwell Lane, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:13 a.m. when Amanda Beck, 42, of Paducah was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer southbound on Oaks Road with a 13-year-old female passenger. While navigating a sweeping curve, Beck’s vehicle encountered ice on the roadway, causing it to spin and cross into the opposing lane.

Andersson, traveling northbound in a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, collided with the Ford Explorer in the curve. The impact caused Beck’s vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its side.

Beck and her passenger were initially taken to a local hospital. The juvenile was later transferred to an out-of-state hospital with what authorities described as incapacitating injuries.

The Reidland-Farley Fire Department, Mercy Regional Ambulance, Vanzant’s Towing, McCracken County DES and McCracken County Coroner Amanda Melton assisted at the scene.

The sheriff’s office asked the community to keep Andersson’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
