Marshall County Falls to Nationally-Ranked Chicago Curie in Hard-Fought Battle

(DRAFFENVILLE, Ky.) — The Marshall County Marshals put up a valiant effort Thursday night at Reed Conder Gymnasium but ultimately fell to powerhouse Chicago Curie, 55-47.

The visiting Condors, ranked #2 in Illinois Class 4A and 43rd nationally, found themselves in a tight contest throughout the evening before pulling away in the final two minutes to secure the victory.

Junior Matthew Langhi led the Marshals with 29 points, going 6-for-18 from the field and 15-for-17 from the free throw line. Senior Ryan Stokes added 7 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in the losing effort.

The Marshals struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just four of 17 three-point attempts for 23.5%. Overall, Marshall County shot 35.1% from the field and 81% from the free throw line.

Senior Neyland Jezik contributed six points and two rebounds, while freshman Braxton Burnham chipped in two points and two rebounds. Senior Kaden Mohler and junior Carson Lovett each added two points.

The loss drops the Marshals to 10-4 on the season.

Marshall County will have the weekend to prepare before their next Fourth District showdown. The Marshals will host Calloway County (6-9) on Tuesday as part of a girl/boy doubleheader at Reed Conder Gymnasium.

The Hendrickson Wealth & Retirement Pregame Show begins at 5:25 p.m. on WCBL Sports, with the Lady Marshals (11-2) and Lady Lakers (17-0) tipping off at 6 p.m. The boys’ game will follow approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the girls’ contest.
