(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) — Former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron officially filed paperwork Tuesday to run for the state’s U.S. Senate seat, positioning himself as the Republican frontrunner in a race where he currently holds a substantial polling advantage.
Cameron, surrounded by family and supporters at the filing, enters the contest with approximately a 20-point lead over rivals in publicly available polls and has secured endorsements from more than 100 Kentucky officials and law enforcement leaders—more than any other candidate in the race.
“President Trump needs America First allies in the U.S. Senate who will not let him down,” Cameron said in a statement. “Kentuckians know I will be a Senator who will stand shoulder to shoulder with him and deliver real results for our families.”
Campaign Launch and Key Themes
Coinciding with his filing, Cameron released his first campaign advertisement titled “Greatest Days,” which outlines his platform priorities: supporting President Trump’s agenda, faith-based governance, law and order policies, and opposition to diversity, equity and inclusion programs in government institutions.
During his tenure as Attorney General, Cameron aligned closely with the Trump administration on border security, energy policy, and conservative social issues. He was among the first Kentucky elected officials to endorse Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign in January 2023, more than a year before the Iowa caucuses.
Cameron previously spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention on Trump’s behalf and was included on the former president’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees.
Electoral Landscape
Multiple recent polls show Cameron leading the Republican primary field by significant margins. His campaign emphasizes his record as a “proven conservative leader” and law-and-order advocate, themes that have resonated with Kentucky’s Republican base.
The campaign has attracted what it describes as a “historic grassroots movement” across Kentucky’s 120 counties, with backing from numerous sheriffs, police chiefs, and local officials.
