(MURRAY, Ky.) – Murray State junior forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks has been named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after delivering a historic stretch that placed her among elite company in NCAA Division I women’s basketball.

The Jackson, Tennessee native, who transferred from Indiana University, posted back-to-back 20-point, 20-rebound performances in consecutive double-overtime victories over Illinois State and Bradley last week. Currie-Jelks became just the third Division I player since 2003 to record consecutive 20-20 games and the first to accomplish the feat since 2019.

For the week, Currie-Jelks averaged 21.3 points and 18.7 rebounds while shooting an impressive 61.7 percent from the field. She also contributed 10 steals and nine blocks across the three-game stretch.

The dominant week gave Currie-Jelks three double-doubles, bringing her season total to 11 – tied for the second-most in Division I. She currently leads the Racers with 20.2 points per game this season.

Murray State’s offensive prowess extends beyond Currie-Jelks. As of Monday, the Racers are one of only two Division I programs – along with South Carolina – to feature three players averaging 15 or more points per game. Guard Halli Poock (upper left) is averaging 18.5 points, while Haven Ford (lower left) is contributing 16.9 points per contest.

The recognition marks Currie-Jelks’ continued emergence as one of the premier forwards in the Missouri Valley Conference since joining the program this season.
