Teen Charged After Massive Explosion Rocks Rural Communities
A 19-year-old Princeton man faces multiple charges after authorities say he was involved in detonating a large improvised explosive device on federal property Saturday night.
Multiple residents in the Eddy Creek and Saratoga communities reported hearing and feeling a loud explosion around 7:45 p.m. on December 27. Deputies Josh Travis, Shannon Oliver, and Bobby Beeler responded to the area and located a large crater on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property off Eddy Creek Road.
Investigators determined that more than 100 pounds of aluminum powder mixed with ammonium nitrate, an additional fuel source, and a rifle were likely used to create the explosion. Evidence was collected from the scene.
The investigation, led by Deputy Bobby Beeler with assistance from the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, led authorities to Bo A. Winters, 19, of Princeton, at a Caldwell County residence. Winters accompanied deputies back to Lyon County, where he was charged with criminal mischief, criminal littering, and disorderly conduct. He was booked into the Crittenden County Detention Center.
Additional charges are pending against other individuals identified as being involved in the incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
