(ST. LOUIS) — Murray State junior guard Haven Ford has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, marking the first time this season she has earned the honor.

Ford, a Morehead, Kentucky native who played at Rowan County High School, powered the Racers to a pair of decisive victories last week, averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3 steals per game.

The junior guard nearly recorded a triple-double in Murray State’s 85-57 victory over Memphis, finishing with 14 points, eight rebounds and a season-high eight assists. Ford came within one assist of reaching double figures in all three categories.

Ford followed up that performance with a game-high 23 points in the Racers’ 101-44 rout of Lindsey Wilson. The 23-point outing was one point shy of her season high and led all scorers. She connected on a season-high eight field goals, including four three-pointers, while adding five assists, three rebounds and a steal.

The Racers enter the holiday break with significant momentum, carrying a league-best seven-game winning streak and a 9-2 overall record that leads The Valley. Murray State is also undefeated at home with a 4-0 mark at CFSB Center.

Murray State leads the conference in scoring, averaging 82.3 points per game, which ranks 22nd nationally. The Racers’ 101-point performance against Lindsey Wilson marked the third time an MVC program has eclipsed the century mark this season.

Conference play begins for Murray State on Monday, December 29th at Evansville.  The tip-off from Meeks Family Fieldhouse is set for 6 p.m.
