(MURRAY, Ky.) — The Murray State women’s basketball team delivered an impressive wire-to-wire victory over Memphis on Monday, rolling to an 85-57 win at the CFSB Center in front of 4,513 fans for the program’s annual Education Day game.
The attendance figure established a new standalone record for the Racers’ women’s basketball program.
Murray State seized control early and never looked back, jumping out to a 28-17 lead after the opening quarter. The Racers extended their dominance in the second period, outpacing the Tigers 25-12 to carry a commanding 53-29 cushion into the locker room at halftime. The hosts maintained their defensive intensity after the break, limiting Memphis to just 28 combined points in the third and fourth quarters to secure the 28-point triumph.
Halli Poock led all scorers with 22 points while securing 10 rebounds for a double-double effort. She connected on 8 of 18 field goal attempts, including four shots from beyond the arc.
Haven Ford came close to recording a triple-double, contributing 14 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high eight assists. Keslyn Secrist and Sharnecce Currie-Jelks each chipped in 15 points for the balanced Racers attack.
Murray State controlled the paint and the glass throughout, holding a 52-37 rebounding advantage that included 19 offensive boards. The Racers capitalized on Memphis’ struggles with ball security, converting 20 Tiger turnovers into 24 points.
The Racers shot 39.4 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three-point range while holding Memphis to just 36.5 percent shooting overall and 16.7 percent from distance. This was Murray State’s second win over an American Athletic Conference opponent this season (UAB).
Murray State (8-2) will host Lindsey Wilson on Saturday at 2 p.m. in their final non-conference game of the season.
