(BENTON, Ky.) — For those finding the holiday season difficult due to grief, loss, or loneliness, a special Blue Christmas service will provide a space for reflection and healing on Sunday, December 21st at 6:00 p.m.
The contemplative worship event, scheduled to take place at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck and Cann located at 1003 Poplar Street in Benton, welcomes anyone carrying pain during what is often portrayed as the most joyful time of year.
“The Christmas season is hard for those whose hearts are hurting. You are not Alone,” Pastor Tim Coman of Pleasant Grove Church noted in announcing the service.
Blue Christmas services, sometimes referred to as “Longest Night” services, have become an important tradition for faith communities seeking to acknowledge that the holidays aren’t universally happy. Held around the winter solstice, these gatherings create a nurturing environment where participants can openly express sadness and remember losses while surrounded by a supportive community.
Unlike traditional festive church settings, this year’s service will take place in a neutral venue designed to offer greater peace and comfort to attendees. The atmosphere will feature soft music, dim lighting, and thoughtful readings that balance acknowledgment of sorrow with messages of hope and the presence of light amid darkness.
The event is sponsored by Congregations in Marshall County and welcomes all, “regardless of loss or time passed.”

The service offers a tranquil alternative to the usual holiday hustle and bustle for those who need it most during this season of celebration.
