Fayhona “Faye” Overby passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, in her hometown of Paducah. Born November 15, 1935, Faye lived a life full of determination, compassion, and faith.
She earned her nursing degree and spent 19 years at Lourdes Hospital, where she cared for patients with kindness and empathy. In 1981, she became the first Board-Certified Enterostomal Therapist in the Paducah area—a true trailblazer. Later, she continued her career at Western Baptist Hospital for 9 more years before retiring, though her influence continued long after.
Facing her own challenges with grace, Faye developed ulcerative colitis in her thirties and became one of the first patients to undergo an ileostomy procedure in her community. With characteristic strength, she transformed her struggles into a powerful tool for helping others. Faye taught patients to embrace life’s challenges, to adapt, and to flourish despite adversity. Her experience and empathy made her an invaluable guide and mentor to those navigating similar paths.
Outside of work, Faye was known for her warmth, resilience, and ability to connect with people. She had a gift for caring deeply and making others feel seen and supported. Above all, her faith guided her through life. She credited God as her source of strength and was a devoted member of Heartland Church, where she found joy and community.
Faye’s passing leaves a hole in many hearts, but her legacy of love, faith, and perseverance will continue to inspire. She will be remembered not only for the challenges she overcame but for the countless lives she touched with her kindness and encouragement.
Faye is survived by three daughters, Brelinda Kern (Tony) of O’Fallon, Illinois, Tamara Heater of Granite City, Illinois, Debra Travelstead (Bruce) of Carbondale, Illinois; one son, Frank Overby (Teresa) of Benton; 10 grandchildren, Franklin James Overby, Brooks Overby (Catie), Michelle Rhea (David), Mitchell Overby, Nathan Kern (Christine), Evan Kern (Angie), Matthew Frizzell (Meghan), Whitney Weisenberger (Brandon), Stuart Heather, Ryan Heater; 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jimmie Franklin Overby; her parents, Raymond and Myrtie Stubbs Paris; one sister, Eula Belle Woodring (Coy); and one brother, Robert Paris (Joy).
