(MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky.) — Detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office have discovered human remains on a Broyles Avenue property following a months-long investigation, officials announced Thursday.
The remains were found Wednesday afternoon in a shallow grave on the property, according to the sheriff’s office. The location is now being treated as an active crime scene.
Authorities began investigating the property several months ago after receiving information suggesting possible human remains may have been buried there. The investigation culminated in yesterday’s discovery by detective personnel.
A forensic anthropology team has been called in to assist with the excavation and examination of the remains. The sheriff’s office stated that the cause of death remains unknown at this time pending further investigation.
Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to public safety in connection with the discovery.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office said it will release additional information as the investigation progresses and more details become available.
