
(BROOKINGS, S.D.) — The Murray State University women’s basketball team dropped its first game of the season Monday night, falling 91-60 to South Dakota State University at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Racers (1-1) opened the contest with a strong first quarter, taking a 15-10 lead behind early scoring from junior guard Haven Ford and forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks. However, the Jackrabbits (3-0) responded with a dominant second quarter, outscoring Murray State 25-7 to seize control of the game heading into halftime.
Despite a 26-point third quarter effort, the Racers were unable to close the gap as South Dakota State maintained its offensive rhythm, shooting 57.6% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range.
Ford led Murray State with 17 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Currie-Jelks added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Keslyn Secrist pulled down nine boards. Halli Poock contributed seven points and two assists.
As a team, the Racers shot just 29.2% from the field and 17.2% from beyond the arc. Murray State also recorded 39 rebounds and eight steals in the contest.
