(McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky.) — A truck hauling large cable spools lost part of its load on the Interstate 24 bridge Monday afternoon, forcing a lengthy closure of westbound lanes but resulting in no injuries.
McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the westbound side of the I-24 bridge at approximately 3:13 p.m. on November 11, 2025, for a single-vehicle collision.
According to investigators, Javier Rodriguez of Houston, Texas, was driving a Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer westbound when traffic ahead suddenly stopped due to a construction zone. Rodriguez attempted to brake, but the abrupt stop caused his cargo to shift, with several large cable spools partially falling from the trailer.
The situation was compounded when some of the fallen spools unwound, creating additional cleanup challenges for emergency crews.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Westbound traffic remained shut down for approximately five hours while crews worked to clear the roadway.
Multiple agencies assisted the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office at the scene, including Paducah Police, Concord Fire, McCracken County Emergency Management, Lent’s Towing, Metropolis Police Department, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
