Marshall County Cyclists Shine at State Championship

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – Marshall County High School cyclists delivered impressive performances at the Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League Championship race, the Clash at the Capitol, with multiple riders earning top finishes across various divisions while helping the team secure fourth place overall in the High School Division 2 standings.

Leading the charge for Marshall County was Emma Roberts, who claimed first place in the Varsity Girls division with a time of 1:30:19.98. Roberts dominated the four-lap race with consistent splits, posting lap times of 22:20, 22:30, 23:02, and 22:25 to edge out her competition by just 11 seconds.

In the Varsity Boys race, Brady Atkins secured sixth place overall with a time of 1:23:16.74 over four laps. Atkins posted steady splits throughout the race, finishing with lap times of 19:31, 20:44, 21:29, and 21:31.

Marshall County’s success continued in the JV2 Girls division, where Amelia Miller took home first place with a dominant two-lap performance. Miller finished in 48:29.85, posting lap times of 24:11 and 24:18 to beat her nearest competitor by nearly two minutes.

The middle school divisions also saw strong showings from Marshall County riders. Hudson Atkins finished second in Middle School A Boys with a time of 34:27.00, while Gracen Newnum placed seventh in the same category with a time of 35:40.46. Molly Morris earned fourth place in Middle School A Girls, crossing the finish line in 39:21.40. Chloe Sharp also competed in Middle School A Girls, finishing eighth.

In Middle School B Boys, Cooper Thompson placed 12th (29:35.86), Blake Reed finished 18th (30:41.67), Darvin Harger took 40th (34:13.13), and Hunter Criswell placed 46th (36:27.54). Jayclynn Fox competed in Middle School B Girls but did not finish the race.

Middle School C Boys saw strong performances from Dax Powell, who finished sixth with a time of 31:13.32, and Brady Fleming, who placed 10th with a time of 34:26.29.

The JV divisions also featured solid Marshall County performances. Nathan Downs finished 14th in JV1 Boys (1:02:53.93), while Dalton Powell placed 17th (1:05:43.01). In JV2 Boys, Max Dittman took 12th place (48:22.95) and Avery Criswell finished 18th (57:36.29). Gabriel Rob rounded out the JV3 Boys competition with a 12th-place finish (50:24.02).

Marshall County High School finished fourth in the overall High School Division 2 team standings with 10,337 points across five races, trailing Hardin-Elizabethtown Composite (10,909 points), Warren County Composite (10,390 points), and NKY Roots Campbell Composite (10,344 points). The Marshals finished just ahead of McCracken County High School, which placed fifth with 10,157 points.
