(MURRAY, Ky.) – Javon Jackson put on a scoring clinic, and the Murray State Racers overwhelmed Northern State 112-74 in their Racer Mania exhibition Sunday afternoon, giving fans plenty to cheer about heading into the regular season.
Jackson led all scorers with a dominant performance, consistently attacking the paint and knocking down perimeter shots throughout the contest. The Racers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, building an 18-point advantage by halftime at 52-34.
Murray State established control early, with KJ Tenner draining a three-pointer just 20 seconds into the game. The Racers showcased their offensive firepower throughout the first half, with Jackson, Fredrick King, and Mathis Courbon repeatedly finding success in transition and in the half-court sets.
The second half saw Murray State continue to pull away, stretching the lead to as many as 41 points. The Racers’ balanced attack kept Northern State’s defense off-balance, with multiple players contributing to the scoring barrage.
Brayden Shorter provided a spark off the bench, connecting on multiple three-pointers in the second half. Roman Domon and Layne Taylor also made significant contributions, with Domon showing versatility by hitting from beyond the arc and finishing inside.
For Northern State, Simon Akena led the Wolves’ effort with consistent production around the basket, while Josh Book and Marshawn Smith tried to keep their team within striking distance. Nelson Reynolds provided a late-game spark with some three-point shooting, but it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome Murray State’s relentless offensive attack.
The Racers shot efficiently throughout, moving the ball well and finding open looks. Their defensive pressure forced numerous Northern State turnovers, leading to easy transition baskets.
Murray State’s depth was on full display, with contributions from up and down the roster. Lachlan Crate provided energy late with several tip-in dunks and layups that brought the crowd to its feet.
After August exhibition wins in the Bahamas and two October ins over Xavier and Northern State, the Racers turn their attention to the season opener on November 3rd against Omaha at the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon in Sioux Falls.
