(DRAFFENVILLE, Ky.) — Owensboro Apollo spoiled Senior Night for Marshall County on Friday, rolling to a decisive 49-6 victory over the Marshals at Carroll Traylor Stadium/Jim Shelton Field.
The Eagles offense proved unstoppable, racking up 466 total yards while holding Marshall County to just 161 yards on the night. Apollo’s balanced attack featured 391 passing yards and 75 rushing yards, overwhelming the Marshall County defense throughout the contest.
Junior quarterback Maxwell Johnson led Apollo’s aerial assault, completing 19 of 21 passes for 335 yards and five touchdowns. Senior receiver Ehmadjai Badger was Johnson’s favorite target, hauling in four catches for 123 yards and two scores. Senior Landen Bratcher added six receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown.
The Marshals managed just 118 rushing yards and 43 passing yards against the E-Gals’ stout defense. Senior quarterback Neyland Jezik completed 10 of 18 passes for 43 yards and one touchdown, while the ground game struggled to find room against Apollo’s front seven.
Marshall County’s lone score came on a touchdown reception by sophomore Jett Jones, who finished with four catches for 14 yards. The Marshals missed the extra point attempt, leaving the final margin at 43 points.
Apollo kicker Uziel Munguia was perfect on the night, converting all seven extra point attempts to cap scoring drives.
The loss on Senior Night was especially disappointing for Marshall County’s senior class, who were honored before the game. Seniors Carson Fogg, Kaden Mohler, Kayson Holland, Kamren Brown, Deegan Croley, Collin Mclean, and Grant Franklin all saw action in their final home game.
The loss eliminates the Marshals chance at a playoff berth as the team falls to 3-6 (1-4), playing their final game of the season Friday at Jack D. Rose Stadium in Murray against Calloway County 5-4 (2-3) in Class 4A, District 1. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
