(LAS VEGAS) – A new online tournament is giving ghost hunters and thrill-seekers across the country the chance to vote on America’s most terrifying haunted location.
The64.com announced Monday it will host “America’s Best Haunted Destination,” a bracket-style competition featuring 64 of the nation’s most infamous paranormal sites. The tournament launches Oct. 16 and runs through Nov. 2, with free public voting determining which location claims the national title.
The competition brings together a diverse collection of spine-chilling locations from coast to coast. Participants include Pennsylvania’s Eastern State Penitentiary, New York’s Amityville Horror House, Connecticut’s Union Cemetery, Iowa’s Villisca Axe Murder House, Ohio’s Franklin Castle, Arizona’s Bird Cage Theatre, and Los Angeles’ Cecil Hotel.
The six-round tournament will feature changing matchups as locations advance through the bracket, with voters eligible to win prizes throughout the competition period.
“Halloween is the one time of year we celebrate being scared, and haunted destinations conjure the thrill of ghosts, mystery, and the unknown,” said Justin Woo, founder of The64.com. “This tournament reveals which stories and places America can’t stop talking about.”
The competition arrives as Halloween travelers and paranormal enthusiasts begin planning seasonal excursions to reportedly haunted sites. Unlike traditional rankings compiled by editors or critics, The64.com’s tournament relies entirely on community voting, with no paid placements or editorial influence on the results.
Voting opens Wednesday at The64.com.
