(MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky.) — Motorists traveling Interstate 24 in Marshall County should expect continued nighttime disruptions this week as construction crews work to reinforce bridge shoulders along a critical stretch of the highway.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Monday that lane restrictions and detours will remain in effect through Tuesday as part of an ongoing project targeting two bridges: the I-24 overpass at Exit 27 near Kentucky Dam and the Tennessee River Bridge at the Marshall-Livingston County line.

Eastbound Traffic Affected Monday and Tuesday

Eastbound I-24 travelers near the Tennessee River Bridge will encounter lane restrictions from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, October 13, and Tuesday, October 14. Full detours will follow from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. each night.

During the detour period, eastbound drivers will be directed off the interstate at Exit 27, then routed along U.S. 62 and KY 453 before rejoining I-24 eastbound at Exit 31. Law enforcement will be on hand to assist with traffic flow.

Westbound Closure Set for Wednesday

Westbound lanes near the Tennessee River Bridge will face similar restrictions on Wednesday, October 15, with lane closures from 7 to 9 p.m. and a detour running from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Westbound motorists will exit at Exit 31, follow KY 453 and U.S. 62, and return to I-24 westbound at Exit 27.

What Comes Next

Transportation officials said temporary barrier walls will be installed near Exit 27 and along the eastbound on-ramp at U.S. 62 following this week’s work to facilitate traffic shifts during the project.

The cabinet emphasized that all work schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. No daytime lane restrictions are planned for the Tennessee River Bridge this week.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and exercise caution when approaching work zones.
