(MURRAY, Ky.)-A 17-year-old from Boca Raton, Florida, has been extradited to Kentucky following a false emergency report that triggered a police response in Murray this summer.
On August 30, 2025, Murray police officers rushed to the scene after receiving a call about an armed person threatening to harm himself and others. Investigators quickly identified the incident as a “swatting” hoax—a dangerous prank in which someone makes a false emergency call using a spoofed phone number. While officers were still at the scene, the same suspect allegedly made additional bomb threats against the city.
Through their investigation, Murray police identified the juvenile caller and filed three charges: Falsely Reporting an Incident Which Generates an Emergency Response, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree, and Theft by Deception Under $500. The teen was taken into custody and extradited to Kentucky on October 4, 2025.
The Murray Police Department emphasized that it treats swatting incidents with the utmost seriousness and will prosecute anyone involved in such schemes. Officials thanked the Boca Raton Police Department for their collaboration in the case.
The department reminds the public that all individuals charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
