
(DRAFFENVILLE, Ky.)-The Marshall County cross country teams showcased their depth and talent at the Marshall County Invitational, with the boys claiming victory in the high school 5000-meter race while the girls secured strong finishes across multiple divisions.
Boys 5000 Meters – High School Division
Marshall County’s boys team dominated the high school race, winning the team championship with 55 points. Senior Kobey Yates led the charge, capturing the individual title with an impressive time of 16:19.37.
“This was a complete team effort,” said head coach Corey Westerfield. “Our top five runners all finished within the scoring positions, which shows our depth and training is paying off.”
The Marshals’ scoring five included:
- Kobey Yates (1st, 16:19.37)
- Daniel Walker (7th, 18:34.19)
- Thatcher Newnum (12th, 18:54.13)
- Madden Lovett (17th, 19:06.12)
- Jared Gaudy (18th, 19:08.51)
Jake Fennel (23rd, 19:29.00) and Hubert Mclean (49th, 22:49.47) provided additional depth for the Marshals, contributing to their decisive team victory.
Boys 4000 Meters – Middle School Division
The Marshall County middle school boys finished second with 54 points, showing strong potential for the future. Cowan Griggs paced the team with a 6th place finish in 17:20.32, followed closely by Jace Cox in 8th (17:42.67).

Boys Elementary Division
In the 1600-meter elementary race, Marshall County Elementary Schools placed 7th as a team with 154 points. Slade Spiceland led the way with a 17th place finish in 7:15.96.
Girls Results
The Marshall County girls also had a successful day across multiple divisions:
High School 5000 Meters: The girls finished 3rd with 67 points, led by Ava Sutherland’s 7th place finish (23:59.44). Kendall James (9th, 24:56.52), Ava Moore (11th, 25:32.12), Charleigh Duncan (14th, 26:33.29), and Destiny Dickson (26th, 30:51.92) completed the scoring five.
Middle School 4000 Meters: The girls claimed 2nd place with 46 points. Colby Green’s 6th place finish (19:17.92) and Willow Campbell’s 7th place showing (19:50.21) led a balanced attack that included five scorers within the top 18 finishers.
Elementary 1600 Meters: Marshall County Elementary’s girls finished 4th with 129 points, highlighted by Aubrey Davis’s 10th place finish (7:44.19).
Looking Ahead
The strong performances across all divisions demonstrate the health of Marshall County’s cross country program from elementary through high school levels. With the postseason approaching, the Marshals appear well-positioned for continued success.
“Today’s results show the work our athletes and coaches have put in throughout the season,” added Westerfield. “We’re excited about what lies ahead as we move toward the championship phase of our season.”
The Marshall County teams will next compete on Thursday in the Mad Marshal Dash.
