(MURRAY, Ky.) – Murray State University’s Department of Global Languages & Theatre Arts and Department of Music are bringing classic children’s literature to life this week with their collaborative production of “Aesop’s Fables,” written by Kathleen Menino.

The family-friendly show will run September 25-27 at the Robert E. Johnson Theatre in the Price Doyle Fine Arts Center. Performance times include morning shows on September 25 and 26 at 9:30 a.m., with an additional noon performance on September 25 designed specifically for preschool through third-grade audiences. A matinee performance is scheduled for September 27 at 2:30 p.m.

The production follows Mr. Tortoise and Ms. Hare as they hold auditions for a new acting troupe called Aesop’s Acting Ensemble. While the actors are eager to perform beloved fables, their plans are complicated by the pompous acting duo of Dame Patty and Sir Reynard, who threaten to disrupt the group’s harmony. The story explores whether the ensemble can work together as a team, using the timeless morals of Aesop’s tales to overcome their differences.

“Working on this show has truly been an honor,” said Director Billy Hobson. “I could not begin to compliment my cast enough on the amazing job they have done with helping me bring my vision to life for ‘Aesop’s Fables.'”

For many cast members, the production has provided more than just theatrical experience. Lucas Jones of Milan, Tennessee, said the show has helped him find his place at Murray State.

“Working with this cast and crew has truly been an amazing experience,” Jones said. “I was worried, coming into college, that I wouldn’t know anyone or find a group, but I truly feel like I’ve joined a second family here at Murray State!”

The eight-member cast includes students from across Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana: Adyson Townsend of Paducah, Kentucky; Jake Blankenship of Evansville, Indiana; Chloe LaDon of Murray, Kentucky; Lucas Jones of Milan, Tennessee; Lauren Bradley of Georgetown, Kentucky; Ethan Neville of Fisherville, Kentucky; Theo Miller of Murray, Kentucky; and Serenity Loudin of Corbin, Kentucky.

Tickets are available for $3, with Murray State students admitted free with valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at murraystate.edu/theatretickets.

The production marks another successful collaboration between Murray State’s theatre and music departments, combining performance arts to create an educational and entertaining experience for audiences of all ages.
