(BENTON, Ky.) — Marshall County Human Rights and Advocacy is launching its second community food drive of the year, collecting non-perishable items from September 22 through October 1 to support local families in need.

The organization previously hosted a successful food drive, with donations distributed to Needline and God’s Promise. This latest initiative will expand distribution to include Marcellas for their community blessing boxes, reflecting the growing need for food assistance in the area.

“The need is increasing,” said Co-Founder Laura McHugh, who have added multiple drop-off locations throughout the county to make participation more convenient for community members.

Free Community Celebration Planned

The food drive will culminate with a free community event on September 27 from 4 to 7 p.m., designed to bring families together while supporting the cause. The celebration will feature two bouncy houses, a professional photo booth offering complimentary individual prints, and a dunk tank exclusively for food drive participants.

Anyone donating items will be entered into a giveaway for a free raised garden bed and will receive access to the dunk tank. The event will also showcase local vendors, community resources, and information about upcoming community and victory gardens planned for local neighborhoods.

Attendees can enjoy free popcorn, drinks, and food truck offerings throughout the evening.

Year-Round Community Support

Beyond the food drive, Marshall County Human Rights and Advocacy maintains an active presence in community support. The organization assists twice weekly at a Marshall County community garden, where all produce is grown and harvested specifically to give away free to community members.

Additional Programming

The organization will host a craft event on September 28 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Marshall County Library. The $20 workshop, which helps cover supply costs for the nonprofit, allows participants to paint and take home a fall doormat. A few spots remain available for registration.

Community members interested in supporting the food drive can find drop-off locations throughout Marshall County. More programming is planned for after October, with organizers promising additional community-focused initiatives in the coming months.
