(FRANKFORT, Ky.) — The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee approved Chad Meredith’s nomination to serve as U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Kentucky on Thursday, moving his confirmation process one step closer to completion.
Kentucky Senate Majority Leadership praised the committee’s decision, expressing confidence in Meredith’s qualifications for the federal bench.
“We’re pleased to see Chad Meredith’s nomination move forward with today’s committee approval,” the leadership said in a statement. “Chad’s deep respect for the Constitution, his sharp legal mind, and steady judgment make him exceptionally qualified for the federal bench.”
The nomination carries personal significance for the Kentucky Senate, as Meredith is the son of Senator Stephen Meredith. Leadership noted this was “a proud day” for both Chad Meredith’s family and their colleague.
“We look forward to Chad’s continued confirmation process and are confident he will serve Kentucky and the nation with distinction,” the statement concluded.
The nomination now awaits consideration by the full U.S. Senate for final confirmation. If confirmed, Meredith would join the federal judiciary for Kentucky’s Eastern District, which covers much of the eastern portion of the state.
The Eastern District of Kentucky handles federal cases across a region that includes cities such as Lexington, Ashland, and Pikeville, serving approximately 1.2 million residents across 58 counties.
