(BENTON, Ky.) — Tom Smothers of Benton was in the right place at the right time Saturday morning when his number was drawn during WCBL’s popular Bargain Line program, earning him a $275 jackpot.

The weekly radio show, which airs Saturdays beginning at 8 a.m., features deals on restaurants, concert tickets, auto services and other local offerings. But it’s the weekly jackpot drawing that keeps listeners tuned in each week.

The program operates on a simple but suspenseful system: participants receive numbers that are placed in a large drum. When a number is drawn, the corresponding listener has just three minutes to call the station and claim their prize. If no one calls within the time limit, $25 is added to the following week’s jackpot.

This past Saturday, the pot had grown to $275 after several weeks without a winner. When Smothers’ number was called, he was listening and ready to claim his prize.

“It pays to listen and win on WCBL’s Bargain Line,” host Greg Leath noted.

Those interested in joining the weekly drawing can stop by the WCBL studios to pick up their Bargain Line number and participate in the fun. With Smothers’ win, this week’s jackpot resets to the base amount of $25.

The Bargain Line continues to offer both deals for local businesses and the excitement of the weekly drawing, providing entertainment and value to the station’s Saturday morning audience.
