(MAYFIELD, Ky.) — Kentucky State Police Post 1 announced Monday it will conduct traffic safety checkpoints throughout its district in an effort to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with state motor vehicle laws.

The checkpoints, which will focus on detecting impaired drivers and other traffic violations, are part of KSP’s ongoing commitment to highway safety across western Kentucky. Officers will be checking for driving under the influence violations, proper vehicle registration and insurance, valid driver’s licenses, and vehicle equipment deficiencies.

“The intent of these traffic safety checkpoints is to provide a high visibility public safety service,” KSP officials stated. The initiative serves as both an enforcement tool and a deterrent for potential violators of Kentucky traffic laws.

Motorists encountering the checkpoints should have their driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance readily available. According to KSP, drivers with proper documentation and no violations can expect delays of 30 seconds to just a few minutes, depending on traffic congestion.

The checkpoints will be conducted in 11 counties within Post 1’s jurisdiction: Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Livingston, Lyon, McCracken, Marshall, and Trigg counties.

KSP emphasizes that all checkpoint locations undergo supervisory approval and are designed to concentrate enforcement efforts on violations that directly impact public safety throughout the Commonwealth.

Current checkpoint locations are available on the Kentucky State Police website at https://www.kentuckystatepolice.ky.gov/post1checkpoints.

The traffic safety initiative reflects KSP’s broader strategy to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries through targeted enforcement and public education efforts across western Kentucky’s roadways.
