(CALVERT CITY, Ky.) — Chemical manufacturer Arkema officially opened its new $60 million Forane 1233 production plant in Calvert City on Tuesday, expanding the company’s manufacturing capabilities for environmentally-friendly blowing agents.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the completion of a major expansion at Arkema’s existing Calvert City facility. The new plant will produce Forane 1233zd, a low global warming potential (GWP) blowing agent used in foam insulation and other applications.
The expansion is expected to create new job opportunities in the region and bolster Marshall County’s position as a center for specialty chemical manufacturing. Local officials praised the investment as a sign of continued industrial growth in western Kentucky.
Forane 1233zd is part of Arkema’s portfolio of next-generation refrigerants and blowing agents designed to have reduced environmental impact compared to traditional alternatives. The product serves industries including construction, appliances, and commercial refrigeration.
The Calvert City facility joins Arkema’s network of manufacturing sites across North America, supporting the company’s strategy to meet growing demand for low-GWP solutions as regulations phase out higher-impact chemicals.
