(DRAFFENVILLE, Ky.) The Marshall County Marshals opened their 2025 football season with a commanding 42-29 victory over visiting Crittenden County on Friday night, overcoming a resilient effort from their opponents to secure their first win of the year.

The Marshals controlled the game throughout most of the contest, though Crittenden County proved to be a formidable opponent that kept the pressure on Marshall throughout the evening. Despite the competitive nature of the matchup, Marshall was able to pull away for the 13-point victory margin.

“Crittenden County came to play tonight,” said Marshall County head coach Nick Bloodworth.  “They gave us everything we could handle, but our guys stepped up when they needed to and took care of business.”

The win improves Marshall County to 1-0 on the young season, while Crittenden County falls to 0-1 despite their strong showing on the road.

Marshall County Quarterback Neyland Jezik orchestrated an efficient passing attack, completing 12 of 19 attempts for 146 yards while finding the end zone twice through the air. Despite one interception, Jezik effectively distributed the ball to his playmakers throughout the contest.

The ground game proved equally productive, with Kolten Winsett leading the rushing effort on 12 carries for 85 yards and one touchdown. Kayson Holland added versatility to the offensive attack, accumulating 66 yards on 16 touches while punching in two scores of his own.

Through the air, Ethan Webber emerged as Jezik’s primary deep threat, hauling in two receptions for 61 yards and both of the quarterback’s touchdown passes. Kam Brown provided a reliable target underneath, securing six catches for 54 yards and moving the chains consistently.

The Marshall County defense stepped up when needed, anchored by linebacker Wyatt Holley’s team-high eight tackles. Jett Jones contributed a crucial interception, helping the defensive unit create turnover opportunities and maintain field position throughout the game.

The balanced offensive production and solid defensive play combined to showcase Marshall County’s depth and execution across all three phases of the game.

The Marshals’ offense showed flashes of what could be a potent attack this season, putting up 42 points against a Crittenden County defense that made them work for every yard.

Both teams will review film from this contest as they prepare for Week 2 action, with Marshall County hoping to carry their winning ways into hostile territory at Caldwell County Friday night at 7:00pm in Princeton.
