DRAFFENVILLE, Ky. – In a tightly contested match between former district rivals, the Calloway County Lady Lakers defeated the Marshall County Lady Marshals 1-0 Thursday night at the Colburn Soccer Complex.
Both teams displayed strong defensive play throughout the first half, with neither side able to find the breakthrough as the teams entered halftime locked in a scoreless tie.
The deadlock was finally broken in the second half when Calloway County’s Ann Marie Arnett managed to find the back of the net for what would prove to be the match-winning goal at the 25 minute mark. The Lady Lakers’ single score held up against a determined Marshall County squad that was unable to find an equalizer despite their efforts.
The loss drops Marshall County to 2-1-1 on the season as they prepare for their next challenge. The Lady Marshals will return to action Saturday evening when they welcome Henderson County to the Colburn Soccer Complex. Junior varsity action is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 7 p.m.
