(MARION, Ky.) — The Marshall County Lady Marshals volleyball team got their season off to a winning start Tuesday night, traveling to Crittenden County and defeating the Lady Rockets in a hard-fought three-set match.
The Lady Marshals claimed victory with set scores of 25-22, 25-13, and 29-27, showcasing both dominance and resilience throughout the contest.
The opening set proved to be a closely contested battle, with Marshall County edging out Crittenden County 25-22. The Lady Marshals then found their rhythm in the second set, pulling away for a commanding 25-13 victory that put them one set away from the match win.
However, the Lady Rockets weren’t ready to concede defeat. The third set developed into an extended back-and-forth affair that pushed both teams beyond the standard 25-point mark. In the end, Marshall County’s persistence paid off as they secured the 29-27 victory to close out the match.
The season-opening road win provides early momentum for the Lady Marshals as they begin their campaign. The victory also demonstrates the team’s ability to handle pressure situations, particularly evident in their ability to close out the competitive third set.
Olivia Hawkins had 14 kills, Emma Reynolds had 32 assists and Hadley Barrett had 18 digs to lead the Orange attack. Marshall County will look to build on this positive start as they continue on Monday at Carlisle County.
