(MURRAY, Ky.)-Murray State University’s Department of Art & Design will welcome an artist whose whimsical yet grumpy ghost-like creatures have captivated audiences nationwide when Sage Perrott visits campus September 9-11.
Known professionally as Haypeep, Perrott will serve as this year’s Patricia L. Summerville Artist in Printmaking, leading hands-on screenprinting workshops and sharing insights about her distinctive artistic vision.
Three Days of Creative Learning
The West Virginia native will conduct intensive screenprinting workshops from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (September 9-11) in Fine Arts room 1006, working alongside advanced printmaking students from Professor Nicole Hand’s and Professor Lu Coby’s classes.
Perrott will also deliver a public lecture about her work on September 9 at 11 a.m. in Fine Arts room 623, located within the Clara Eagle Gallery.
Both the workshops and lecture are free and open to everyone.
Art That Makes You Smile (and Relate)
Perrott’s artwork features endearingly grumpy, lumpy ghost-like figures caught in cramped and often humorous situations that viewers find surprisingly relatable. Her preferred mediums include screenprinting and risograph printing, techniques that give her work its distinctive bold, graphic quality.
Currently an Associate Professor of printmaking at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, Perrott holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from West Virginia University and a Master of Fine Arts from Ohio University. Her prints, drawings, and zines have found devoted collectors across the United States and internationally.
Honoring a Legacy of Learning
The Patricia L. Summerville Lecture Series, which makes this visit possible, honors a remarkable Murray State alumna who packed an extraordinary amount of achievement into her lifetime. Patricia Summerville graduated from Murray State in just three years in 1972 with a B.S. Ed., then went on to earn three additional degrees: a Master’s in Education from the University of Akron (1976), a Master’s in Hospital Administration from Xavier University (1982), and a law degree from Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University (1994).
Summerville’s diverse career spanned six years of art teaching, twenty years in healthcare administration, and five years practicing law before her retirement in 2003. She passed away in March 2022, leaving behind an endowment that continues to bring accomplished artists to Murray State students.
