(POSSOM TROT, Ky.)-The Calvert City Gun Club hosted the National Skeet Shooting Association’s Zone 3 tournament last weekend, bringing together elite marksmen from across the Midwest and Appalachian regions. The competition featured top shooters from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia vying for regional supremacy.
Tournament Highlights
Doubles Event Victory Senior Master Sergeant Andrew Winders of Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, opened the tournament with a flawless performance, breaking all 100 targets to claim the Doubles Event title. In a dramatic family rivalry, Gavin Stevenson of Benton, Kentucky, edged out his uncle Barry Stevenson in a tiebreaker shootoff, with both finishing at 99/100 for second and third place respectively.
12-Gauge Turnaround Gavin Stevenson turned the tables on Winders in the 12-gauge event, winning a tiebreaker shootoff between the two perfect scorers. Les Lala of Louisville rounded out the podium with a 99/100 performance.
20-Gauge Competition Nick Shively of South Bend, Indiana, emerged victorious in the 20-gauge event after a tiebreaker with Jack Krispin of Columbus, Ohio, both having shot perfect 100s. Joe Charles of Ashland, Kentucky, secured third place with 99/100.
28-Gauge Dominance Stevenson showcased his versatility by claiming the 28-gauge title outright with the day’s only perfect score of 100. Shively earned runner-up honors by winning a three-way tiebreaker shootoff against Les Lala (third) and Jody Stevenson, all tied at 99/100.
410 Bore Finale Jody Stevenson captured the 410 event in a tiebreaker with Les Lala, both finishing at 98/100. Gavin Stevenson completed the podium with 97/100.
Overall Championship
Gavin Stevenson capped off his impressive weekend by claiming the High Overall championship with a stellar 395/400 aggregate score. Les Lala finished as runner-up with 394/400, while Jody Stevenson secured third place with 393/400.
The excitement continues next weekend as the Kentucky State Shoot takes place at Chief Paduke Gun Club in West Paducah.
