(MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky.) — Motorists traveling eastbound on U.S. 62 in Marshall County should prepare for temporary lane restrictions early Sunday morning as the Tennessee Valley Authority conducts infrastructure maintenance work.
TVA crews will remove an aging 161-kilovolt overhead transmission line on August 17, requiring a partial closure of the highway between 4 and 7 a.m. The work zone spans from beneath the Interstate 24 overpass to just before Truck Plaza Lane, covering approximately two-tenths of a mile between mile points 8.79 and 9.
During the three-hour window, eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane. Additionally, crews will implement a complete 15-minute traffic stoppage near mile point 9 to safely remove the old transmission lines.
“We’re conducting this work during early morning hours to minimize disruption to travelers,” TVA spokesperson Adam May said. The utility company is retiring the transmission line as part of its ongoing infrastructure modernization efforts.
Law enforcement officers will be stationed at the work site to assist with traffic control during the temporary closure. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when approaching the work zone and to watch for construction signage, workers, and equipment.
The location, situated near a major interstate interchange, typically sees significant through traffic between western Kentucky and the Tennessee Valley region. However, the early morning timing is expected to reduce the impact on most commuters.
Drivers who regularly travel this route during early morning hours are advised to allow extra time for their commute or consider alternate routes if possible.
