Paducah Symphony Children’s Chorus Opens Auditions for Young Singers

(PADUCAH, Ky.) — The Paducah Symphony Children’s Chorus is seeking new voices for its upcoming 2025-26 season, with auditions scheduled for later this month.

Students in grades 3-7 are invited to try out for the acclaimed children’s choir, which performs multiple concerts throughout the year and joins the full symphony orchestra for the annual holiday concert in December.

“We’re looking for enthusiastic young singers who want to develop their musical skills while being part of something special,” said Dr. Bradley Almquist, the choir’s conductor and Director of Choral Activities at Murray State University.

Under Dr. Almquist’s direction, the children’s chorus focuses on building music literacy, vocal technique, and cultural awareness alongside performance excellence. The program provides young musicians with a comprehensive foundation in choral singing and musical understanding.

Rehearsals take place Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church in Paducah, creating a convenient schedule for families throughout the region.

The audition process is designed to be approachable for young singers. Participants will perform “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” with piano accompaniment, complete vocal exercises to determine their range and voice part, and participate in pitch and rhythm matching activities.

Two audition dates are available: Saturday, August 16, and Thursday, August 21. Prospective chorus members can choose to audition either at Murray State University with Dr. Almquist or at Symphony Hall in Paducah.

Interested families can register online at www.paducahsymphony.org by clicking the “Education” tab, or by calling the Symphony office at (270) 444-0065. Questions about the program may be directed to the Symphony office or directly to Dr. Almquist at Murray State University.

The Paducah Symphony Children’s Chorus continues to be a cornerstone of the region’s music education programs, providing young singers with professional-level training and performance opportunities that foster both musical growth and community engagement.
