(BENTON, Ky.) — A routine traffic enforcement stop on East 12th Street last Thursday resulted in significant drug charges for a local man.
Officer Jackson initiated the stop on August 8th after witnessing erratic driving behavior. The traffic stop of 62-year-old Todd Lovett of Benton quickly escalated when the driver was unable to produce proof of insurance and his vehicle displayed a severely damaged windshield that impaired visibility.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office deployed K-9 unit “Connor” to assist with the investigation. The drug detection dog indicated the possible presence of controlled substances in the vehicle, prompting a thorough search.
Law enforcement officers discovered more than 2 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and various drug paraphernalia during the search.
Lovett now faces multiple charges including careless driving, failure to produce an insurance card, obstructed vision due to windshield damage, and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
The suspect remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
