(PADUCAH, Ky.) — McCracken County officials have identified human remains discovered more than a month ago as those of a local man, bringing resolution to his family after weeks of uncertainty.

The McCracken County Coroner’s Office announced Tuesday that remains found June 17 near Said Road belong to Darrell Franklin, 38, of Paducah. The identification concludes an intensive forensic investigation that involved multiple agencies working together over several weeks.

Coroner Amanda Melton credited the successful identification to collaboration between her office, the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office, the Kentucky Department of Corrections, and McCracken County Sheriff’s Detective Thomason, who led the investigation.

“This identification reflects the commitment and persistence of our investigative and forensic teams,” Melton said in a statement. She specifically thanked Dr. Ashley Mathew of the Louisville Medical Examiner’s Office for conducting the forensic analysis.

The identification process relied on dental records and tattoo comparisons to conclusively confirm Franklin’s identity. Officials have not released details about how long the remains had been at the location or the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

Investigators continue examining the cause and manner of death. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information relevant to the case to come forward.

The identification brings closure to Franklin’s family while raising new questions about the circumstances that led to his death. The investigation remains active as authorities work to piece together what happened.
