(BENTON, Ky.)-At just 23 years old, Jeff Futrell began serving Marshall and Livingston Counties as the area’s Adult Agriculture Teacher and Kentucky Young Farmer Association Chapter Advisor. Jeff has been serving the lakes area since 1985.
Turning a young 64 years old earlier this May, Jeff continues his role as Adult Agriculture Teacher and KY YFA Chapter Advisor with just as much enthusiasm and heart as when he began. In both Marshall and Livingston counties, free agriculture classes are offered weekly in the late fall through early spring that are open to the public. Jeff himself often heads these classes, presenting valuable information for farmers or aspiring agriculturalists about crops and livestock.
On other class nights, Jeff might arrange for local businesses, professors, teachers, or farmers to come to the class to spread their knowledge to the attendees. Topics are always interesting and beneficial for the beginner and the seasoned farmer. Not only does Jeff offer these classes via the State’s adult agriculture program, but you can also become involved with the county chapter of the KY YFA. Events and contests are held year round.
Marshall and Livingston counties both have two of the most active and honored chapters in the state, thanks to Jeff’s dedication and drive. Over the years, Jeff has made hundreds of visits to farms, school district field days, 4-H, FFA, and agriculture extension, university agriculture programs, and more. He’s made even more visits to farmers, families, and class attendees just to check up on them and say hi, which shows Jeff’s character and passion for the job and people he serves.
